Katie Whipple - President
Hi MT's and MTs in training! My name is Katie Whipple and I am looking forward to giving back to the profession by serving as President of MTAG for the next two years. I'm a licensed and board-certified music therapist with advanced trainings in Neurologic Music Therapy® and Sprouting Melodies. I have eighteen years of experience working with a variety of individuals including children and adults with intellectual disabilities, autism, significant medical conditions, emotional and behavioral health conditions, and sensory impairments as well as older adults and cancer survivors. Currently, I serve as lecturer and undergraduate program coordinator for the music therapy program at Georgia College & State University, as well as faculty advisor for our student organization, The Music Therapy Society. I have presented at several national and regional music therapy conferences on a variety of topics including research, community music therapy, supervision, and technology. I also developed the Music Therapy Program in the Baldwin County School System in Milledgeville, GA and remain a practicing clinician.
While I envision a state organization that helps to connect members, especially new professionals with mentor MTs, and provides innovative CMTE's and assists with job development, I'd first like to spend some time speaking with new and seasoned members about how MTAG can support them professionally and what we want to achieve as a collective. We have a lot to learn from each other and I hope to help build connections and excitement about our organization and our incredibly rewarding profession. A fun fact about me is that I have two amazing children, Griffin (12) & Charlie (10), and we love to have "band" practice where we improvise and write songs together. My husband, Field, is also musical and plays anything with strings!
